Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem?
The Quran claims that Muhammad made a night journey from Al-Haram (Mecca) to Al-Aqsa (the furthest mosque) Surah 17:1. This presents a problem for several reasons. The present day Al-Aqsa mosque is in Jerusalem near the Dome of the Rock, when in fact Jerusalem is found nowhere in the Quran. Secondly, there was no mosque here during the days of Muhammad. This mosque was built in AD 715 nearly a hundred years after Muhammad. In modern copies of the Quran Jerusalem is often added to Surah 17:1 to strengthen the validity of the tale.
